Taste of the Hawaiian Range Brings Together Best of Both Coasts

One of the reasons homebuyers are drawn to the Hamakua Coast is its rural lifestyle and beautiful countryside dotted with picturesque farms and ranches.

Homebuyers looking to buy property on the Kohala Coast are attracted by the gorgeous ocean views and world-class events, ranging from film festivals to PGA golf tourneys.

This Friday the best of both sides of the island will be on display at the Hilton Waikoloa Beach Resort when the 19th Annual Mealani Taste of the Hawaiian Range is held from 5 – 8 p.m.

I admit it, I love gourmet cooking and the Taste of the Hawaiian Range is always a culinary delight. More than 30 chefs will prepare and offer delicious dishes featuring local pasture-raised beef, lamb, beef, pork, goat, mutton, and wild boar – plus a cornucopia of fresh island fruit, veggies, honey, spices, and beverages.

New to Taste of the Hawaiian Range

New this year, Taste of the Hawaiian Range is pairing ranches with specific chefs. For instance, Ernest DeLuz Ranch will provide top round beef to Chef Kanoa Miura of Aloha Mondays, who will use it to prepare Hawaiian-Style Top Round Poke on ‘Uala Chips.

KK Ranch, which is near Pa’auilo, will provide skirt steaks to Chef Scott Hiraishi of the Feeding Leaf (formerly of the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai). Chef Hiraishi will marinade the skirt steak in a special miso-mirin sauce and serve it grilled on ginger rice.

Trip D Ranch, located in O’okala will team up with award-winning Chef Edwin Goto of Village Burger Café to present beef chuck roll with a twist.

If you’ve ever travelled along the Hamakua Coast and wondered about the ranches or farms you see as you drive by, Taste of the Hawaiian Range is a great way to meet and talk story with the farmers, ranchers, and chefs. If you live in the Kohala Coast resorts, you’ll get a chance to chat with chefs from your favorite local restaurants.

Before the festivities get underway, there’ll be a cooking demonstration with Peter Abarcar Jr., Executive Chef of the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, who will demonstrate how to use and prepare 100 percent pasture-raised beef at 3 p.m. And he’ll be handing out samples.
