Music is a part of Hawaii’s culture in which many of the music venues here on the Big Island welcome children. If you are looking for a night out on the town with your kids or a date night, here are a few places that offer a great assortment of music for you to choose from.
Rays on the Bay – Keauhou, Hawaii
Recently renovated, Rays on the Bay at the Sheraton Keauhou Resort is a chic venue with a modern interior design. What I love about this location are the large chase lounges and gas fire pits that overlook Keauhou Bay. Rays on the Bay is a fun place to enjoy live music next to an open fire while watching giant manta rays glide through the bay.

Huggo’s on the Rocks
Located on the Alii Drive, Huggo’s on the Rocks sits right on the waterfront so that you may enjoy live music and great pupus with your toes in the sand while watching a beautiful Kona sunset. Open seven days a week with live entertainment, there is always something here for you to enjoy.
The Blue Dragon Restaurant
When entering the Blue Dragon Restaurant you would never imagine that a place like this exists in an industrial area like Kawaihae. Deemed as a musicquarium, the Blue Dragon Restaurant has been voted as the Best Live Music venue by North Hawaii News in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012. Its spectacular courtyard setting lets you enjoy live entertainment under the stars with warm tropical breezes to keep you cool.

Big Island Brewhaus
What use to be known as Tako Taco, the Big Island Brewhaus is a favorite amongst Waimea locals. A friendly local atmosphere with delicious handcrafted ales, the Big Island Brewhaus serves up Mexican food and showcases a wide variety of local artists.
Kahilu Theater
If you are looking for a more sophisticated crowd and or international acts, I recommend the Kahilu Theater. This small community theater continues to attract incredible artists from all around the world. World-class acts such as: ukulele legend Jake Shimabukuro, Maori song write Maisey Rika, the Harlem Quartet, and the Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars are just a few of the acts who are scheduled to play during the 2014 / 2014 theater season.
Closing Time
Keep in mind, Big Island residents tend to play in the day and turn in early at night, many of these venues close at about 10 pm. Before you head out for a night on the town, please make sure to call or check each venues website.
