Triathlon Training Year Round in Hawaii

Triathlon training year round in Hawaii starts to enter the minds of many athletes this time of year. As cold weather hits the mainland, triathletes nationwide are shoveling snow from their driveways, heading into gyms for endless hours of spinning classes, running on treadmills, and swimming in chlorine-infused, indoor pools.

While they are dreaming of year round training possibilities, Hawaii residents are brushing sand off their feet after an open water swim on the Ironman course in Kona, or sipping a delicious fruit smoothie after a long bike ride or run in perfect balmy, sunny conditions.

Whether you are a professional triathlete or an amateur that loves the sport, the Big Island is a perfect place for your year round training grounds.

Make it Fun with Training Groups & Clubs

1. The ‘Pier Group’ is an informal group of aquatic enthusiasts who love ocean swimming, triathlons, and sports. They meet in the mornings for group swims at the pier in Kona and swim on the Ironman course. There are also masters swim programs in Kona, Waimea, and in Hilo.

2. The Hawaii Cycling Club has weekly rides of varying distances and ability levels in Kona, Waikoloa, Waimea, and Hilo.
