For the month of June, 2012, the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is offering a special Sake Tasting every Sunday and Monday night.
There have been a slew of sake tastings here on the Big Island in the past five or six months, a real treat for those of us looking to expand our knowledge and understanding of the beverage. While the last two I attended were at Sansei and Sushi Rock with their innovative menus and cutting edge sushi style, this sake tasting at the Mauna Kea looks intriguing for exactly the opposite reason – a simple, more traditional Japanese style of food to complement the wine.
Of course, Kampachi is not necessarily a traditional Japanese fish, given that it’s grown right here on the Big Island at NELHA, but you get the point. The only drawback I see to this menu? I wish there were more choices so as to give me the excuse to go more than once in June – it is my birthday month, after all! I wonder if they’ll let me come in just for dessert? Coconut Sake sounds just too good for one pour…See you at the Mauna Kea!

I read this blog three days ago and I cant get “coconut sake” out of my head. Not sure if its a “good” thing or a “bad” thing but I must try it. When are you going?
