Kauai’s north shore is one of the most spectacular locations for homes on acreage in Hawaii. These homes are on agricultural land and often feature a variety of orchards, mature landscaping and more importantly… lots of room. The neighborhoods all have their differences, despite how close they might be to each other. Here’s quick comparison of a few great listings, from Kalihiwai Ridge to Moloa’a on the northeast side of the island:
Kalihiwai Ridge:
Located between Kilauea town and Anini Beach, Kalihiwai Ridge offers the most ‘upcountry’ location on Kauai’s north shore. The main road, Kahiliholo Road, winds 3 miles up towards Mt. Namahana. The views get more and more dramatic as you go, and it’s also a few degrees cooler than down by the beach. Moloa’a:
Moloa’a is much drier than anywhere on the north shore… so if you’re averse to rainfall and partial to hot sun, Moloa’a is for you. While it’s technically not on the north shore, it’s location on the northeast side of Kauai is part of its advantage. It’s closer to Kapaa and Lihue, for example. Here’s a great listing which is now listed at $1,199,000 with views of Moloa’a Valley (MLS #249579):
Kahili Makai:
Located just two miles east of Kilauea town, on the makai (ocean) side of Kuhio Hwy, Kahili Makai is one of nicer agricultural neighborhoods on the north shore. Some of the homes border the Kilauea River Valley, and offer incredible views. It’s a great street for walking, and most of the homes enjoy great vistas, if not direct views of the valley.
