Huge Surf From Tahiti's 2011 Billabong Pro Hits Maui Beaches in Hawaii

It has been an amazing week in Tahiti. They held the Billabong Pro at Teahupo’o, with waves in the 8 to 10 ft. range. One day, they had to cancel and it was declared a tow day with 15 to 30 foot waves. Here is some amazing footage of some hellman charging crazy waves.

The winner of the event was Kelly Slater, just coming off a win at the U.S. Open in Huntington Beach. Today, the Tahiti swell hit Maui. I was up early and on patrol, got a few waves in before heading to Grand Wailea, to sell some Hoolei units. I have been hearing reports of building swells 10 to 12 ft. at LaPerouse Bay in Makena. So, be careful if you are visiting the islands, other than that, get out and catch some waves!
