Deal – REO Haiku Luxury Home for Sale $899K

27 years ago, I was born under a coconut tree on my parent’s property in Haiku, which is located about 0.5 miles away from (MLS# 345385), a bank owned property offered at the awesome price of $899,000.

56 Ho’omalolo Place listed at $899K

A couple times per week, I pass by 56 Ho’omalolo Place on my favorite run and frankly, I have no idea why this fantastic Haiku home offered at such a stellar price has not sold.

Before this home was repossessed, the previous owner of this home spent $1,300,000 on construction and improvements to this property. This doesn’t even account for the land acquisition cost, which even today’s market would probably be about $350,000.

Why do I love this Haiku home for sale?

  1. Haiku is rad—I love the peace, quiet, and lush surroundings that I have enjoyed growing up in Haiku, and spending much of my life here. Its quaint tropical setting is a daily reminder of how beautiful life in paradise is. Yes, Haiku does get some substantial rainfall. We experience anywhere from 60-100 inches of annual rainfall. I often remind people when it rains in Haiku it rains with Mana (power). This is no Seattle drizzling, our rain epitomizes “raining cats and dogs.” It will typically rain in the early morning and evening, the trade winds typically preserve bright and sunny weather during the course of the day.
  2. Outstanding location—The home is located off a quiet, and minimally trafficked rural Haiku road known as Kaupakalua. This particular home sits in a small subdivision consisting of larger agriculturally zoned lots. You can see from the video that this home sits on probably the best lot in that the view planes will forever be preserved.
  3. The views—As pleased as I am with my I Phone G4’s capability to shoot full HD videos (the above video is not in HD, it takes too long to load) it still pales in comparison to experiencing the breathtaking ocean views, and those of Haleakala.
  4. Quality construction with character—This is a custom home designed by a local architect built to withstand the elements of Haiku’s wet winter months. The home is built with Hardi-plank exterior siding (a concrete composite material that is nearly impervious to rainfall and termites), dual-pane vinyl windows, and a solid design that is ideal for the location.
  5. The home has never been lived in—I mean come on, who doesn’t want a brand new house?
  6. Luxury interior finishes—The beautiful open beam ceiling affords a very spacious sensation. There is extensive use of slate and travertine, granite counter-tops, custom track lighting, real hardwood doors (they are amazing), and hardwood flooring in the loft. All of the materials are harmoniously incorporated with one another creating a subtle yet attractive artistic flair.
  7. Solid floor plan—It really disappoints me when I see beautiful homes that have little to no thought when it comes to layout. This home is very well thought out, and everything—except for the staircase being a little to0 steep—makes sense.
  8. Wood burning fireplace—On a night like tonight, where the temperature has dropped below 70 degrees (god forbid, lol) I’d love to have this fireplace to cuddle up to with some hot tea, or cocoa.
  9. The loft—The upstairs portion of the home is a great space that has fantastic natural lighting. I think this area would be great as a yoga studio, or exercise room, an additional bedroom, or an office (I would never leave my desk if I had it right in front of the large windows facing the ocean).
